Everyone in our house is finally getting healthy. What does that mean for me? SLEEP! Grady is finally back to only getting up once in the night and that means my brain is starting to work again. Keep in mind, I did say "starting." So, while he was napping this afternoon, I decided to see what sort of photos I could get just around my own house. These were taken in my own front yard. As dull and brown and the landscape is around here, using my camera has helped me see the uniqueness and beauty in even the simplest of things.
This first photo is the branch of a bush near our front door. Let me tell you... you wanna keep your kids from sneaking out their bedroom window at night, plant one of these bad boys right outside and they won't be going anywhere. Amazingly though, in the spring time, this bush has beautiful orange flowers.
The next one is what the base of the branches of our palm tree look like. As the branches die, they get trimmed back and basically become the bark of the tree itself. Again, these things HURT! Believe me, it was not pleasent wrapping Christmas lights around this thing.
A couple winters ago we actually had a really bad freeze. So bad, one of our beautiful palm trees didn't survive. We held out hope for a while and finally decided it was time for it to go. The stump is still there and this is what it looks like! Pretty cool, huh? It kinda looks like a whole bunch of plants rather than one big one.
As I look back at some of my descriptions of typical desert plant life I have come to the realization that the desert is one dangerously sharp place! They really are fighting to survive!
